Energy recycling is the recovery of energy that would otherwise be wasted, usually by converting it into electricity or thermal energy, carried out at manufacturing plants, power plants and large institutions such as hospitals and universities. It significantly raises overall efficiency, cutting both energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions at the same time, and is generally carried out either as combined heat and power, also called cogeneration, or as dedicated waste heat recovery.
