Johannes Juul was a Danish engineer remembered for the important part he played in developing wind turbines, achievements that have since been included in the Danish Culture Canon. In 1957 he built the Gedser wind turbine near Gedser on the Danish island of Falster for the SEAS electricity company, with support from the Marshall Plan. The turbine's design was an innovative departure from earlier machines and proved a major breakthrough in the development of wind power technology.
