Anthony Nicholas Brady was an American businessman who built a fortune consolidating electric utility and transit systems in cities across the United States. Born in Lille, France in 1841 to an Irish family, he emigrated to Troy, New York in 1857 and worked his way up from a hotel job to running his own business by age 19. Brady gained control of the Albany Gas Light Company and Brooklyn Rapid Transit, and became a leading figure behind the electric utility and transportation systems of several American cities, including Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., often partnering with fellow industrialists such as Thomas Edison and William C. Whitney. He also invested in the early Electric Vehicle Company. Brady died in 1913 while on a business trip to London, having ranked among the hundred wealthiest people in America.
