Gleb Krzhizhanovsky

Gleb Krzhizhanovsky was a Russian engineer and Soviet official who authored the plan that electrified the young Soviet state. In 1920 he headed the commission that produced the GOELRO plan, the state plan for the electrification of Russia that Vladimir Lenin championed with the slogan that communism was Soviet power plus the electrification of the whole country. Krzhizhanovsky went on to become the founding chairman of Gosplan, the Soviet state planning agency, in 1921, holding that post twice during the 1920s, and he later directed the Soviet Academy of Sciences' Energy Institute, shaping Soviet energy and industrial policy for decades.
