Mechanical and Gas Storage Systems

Ways of storing energy as motion, pressure or cold rather than chemistry, including pumped storage hydropower, flywheels, compressed air, liquid air, steam accumulators and gas holders. A technology belongs here when its cited article describes such a mechanical, pressure or cryogenic store or the gas it stores. It excludes batteries and thermal stores. These stores hold energy as height, rotation, pressure or cold, and return it by releasing water, spinning a rotor, expanding gas or boiling a liquid. A technology is placed here by the storage mechanism the cited article describes.
