A zinc-ion battery, or Zn-ion battery (ZIB), is a rechargeable battery that uses zinc ions as its charge carrier, built from a zinc metal anode, a zinc-intercalating cathode material and a zinc-containing electrolyte. The term zinc-ion battery is generally reserved for rechargeable batteries of this kind, distinguishing them from non-rechargeable zinc-based batteries such as alkaline or zinc-carbon batteries.
