Robert Bosch was a German engineer and industrialist who founded a workshop for precision mechanics and electrical engineering in Stuttgart in 1886 that grew into the company bearing his name. His firm developed and commercialized the low-voltage magneto ignition system for internal combustion engines, later refined into a reliable high-voltage magneto ignition, solving one of the central engineering problems that had limited the practical use of early combustion engines. Robert Bosch GmbH went on to become one of the world's largest suppliers of engine ignition and fuel injection technology, work that traces directly back to Bosch's own founding insight that a small, precisely engineered ignition component could make combustion engines dependable enough for everyday use.
