All Coal and Peat

Solid fossil and near-fossil fuels dug from the ground and burned for heat and power, namely coal, the combustible sedimentary rock that fed the Industrial Revolution, and peat, the partly decayed plant matter from which coal forms over time. A source belongs here when its cited article describes a solid fuel formed from buried plant matter. It excludes liquid petroleum and gaseous fuels, which have their own groups, and it is kept separate because both are mined or cut from the ground as solids and burned in furnaces and boilers.
