Bubble fusion, more formally called sonofusion, is the name given to a nuclear fusion reaction hypothesized to occur inside extraordinarily large collapsing gas bubbles created in a liquid through acoustic cavitation, in which intense sound waves drive bubbles to form and then implode with enough force to reach fusion-relevant temperatures and pressures at the moment of collapse. The claim remains scientifically disputed and has not been independently confirmed to the satisfaction of the wider fusion research community, and no bubble fusion device has demonstrated a verified net energy gain. It is recorded here as a real, named approach that has been seriously proposed and investigated, not as a demonstrated energy technology.
