Plasma deep drilling technology is one of several proposed drilling methods that could replace conventional, contact-based rotary drilling for reaching geothermal depths. It uses a high-temperature plasma to fracture and vaporize rock rather than a mechanical drill bit, alongside other proposed non-contact methods such as water jet, hydrothermal spallation and laser drilling.
