The Tuscan field where geothermal electricity began: Prince Piero Ginori Conti's generator of 1904 produced ten kilowatts and lit five bulbs, and the world's first geothermal power plant, the 250 kilowatt Larderello 1, was completed there in 1913. The field now comprises 34 plants operated by Enel Green Power with about 800 megawatts of capacity, part of what makes Italy the sixth-largest geothermal producer in the world.
