An outage management system, or OMS, is specialized software used by operators of electric distribution systems to detect, manage and restore power outages efficiently. It integrates with other systems, including SCADA, geographic information systems and customer information systems, to give operators real-time situational awareness and decision support. Core OMS functions include detecting an outage, identifying the location of the underlying fault, prioritizing the order of restoration work and managing the field workforce carrying it out. By combining data analytics with a shared data model of the network, an OMS aims to improve network visibility, speed up response times and reduce the overall downtime customers experience during an outage.
