Heat Pumps

Devices that move heat from one place to another, using mechanical work or a heat source, including ground source, thermoelectric and absorption-compression heat pumps. A technology belongs here when its cited article describes a heat pump or a type of one. It excludes refrigerators and air conditioners that are described as such. Heat pumps move heat from a cooler place to a warmer one, using a small amount of work, so they deliver more heat than the electricity they consume. A technology is placed here by the heat pump type the cited article describes.

Wikipedia: Ground source heat pump
Has Member: Ground Source Heat Pump, Lead
Quote, Has Member: Ground Source Heat Pump, Lead
A ground source heat pump (also geothermal heat pump) is a heating/cooling system for buildings that use a heat pump to transfer heat to or from the ground, taking advantage of the relative constancy of temperatures of the earth through the seasons.

Air source heat pump (Wikipedia)
Has Member: Air Source Heat Pump, Lead
Quote, Has Member: Air Source Heat Pump, Lead
An air source heat pump (ASHP), the most common type of heat pump, can absorb energy (heat) sourced from cold ambient air outside a building, and release the energy at a higher temperature to heat the building, either via hot air or hot water.

Wikipedia: Thermoacoustic heat engine
Has Member: Thermoacoustic Heat Engine, Lead section
Quote, Has Member: Thermoacoustic Heat Engine, Lead section
Thermoacoustic engines (sometimes called "TA engines") are thermoacoustic devices which use high-amplitude sound waves to pump heat from one place to another (this requires work, which is provided by the loudspeaker) or use a heat difference to produce work in the form of sound waves (these waves can then be converted into electrical current the same way as a microphone does).
