Hydroelectric Facility

Dams and other facilities that generate electricity from the gravitational energy of falling or flowing water, including Itaipu Dam, Three Gorges Dam, Aswan High Dam, Grand Coulee Dam and Hoover Dam. Belongs here: a facility whose primary generating technology is a hydroelectric turbine driven by river or reservoir water. Does not belong here: a pumped-storage station whose primary purpose is storing energy rather than generating it from river flow, grouped under Energy Storage Facility even where it also uses hydro turbines; a tidal barrage, grouped under Marine Energy Facility.
