James Dewar

Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Pioneers

James Dewar was a Scottish chemist and physicist whose research into extremely low temperatures produced two achievements central to modern energy technology. In 1892 he invented the vacuum-insulated flask that bears his name, the ancestor of every cryogenic storage vessel used to hold liquefied gases today, and in 1898 he became the first person to liquefy hydrogen, opening the door to the storage and handling methods that any hydrogen-based energy system depends on.
