Ceria-Based Thermochemical Cycle

Hydrogen Production

A ceria-based thermochemical cycle is a two-step thermochemical cycle that uses cerium oxides, CeO2 and Ce2O3, as an oxygen carrier for the production of synthetic fuel such as hydrogen or syngas. These cycles can obtain hydrogen from the splitting of water molecules alone, or syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, by also splitting carbon dioxide molecules alongside water molecules. Ceria-based thermochemical cycles are studied mainly for concentrated solar applications.
