Palmer Cosslett Putnam was an American consulting engineer and an early pioneer of large scale wind power. He designed the Smith Putnam wind turbine, installed on Grandpa's Knob in Vermont in 1941, which is recognized as the first wind turbine ever built to generate power on the scale of a megawatt. Putnam documented the project in his 1948 book Power from the Wind, published with an introduction by the engineer and science administrator Vannevar Bush.
