The lead-cooled fast reactor is a nuclear reactor design that uses molten lead or a lead-bismuth eutectic as its coolant, allowing operation with fast, unmoderated neutrons. It is one of the Generation IV reactor concepts, and while few lead-cooled reactors have been built historically, new designs are currently under development in Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, Romania, Russia, Sweden and the United States.
