Walter C. Teagle was an American oil executive who led Standard Oil Company of New Jersey through its growth into the world's largest oil producer. He became the company's president in November 1917 at age 39, the youngest president any Standard Oil company had had, and remained in the post until 1937, then serving as chairman of the board until 1942. Under his leadership Standard Oil of New Jersey's share of the world oil market grew from about 2 percent to about 11.5 percent, the company expanded heavily into petrochemicals, and Teagle also supported progressive labor measures such as the eight-hour workday for refinery workers.
