Fritz Vahrenholt (born 1949) is a German chemist, politician and energy executive. After beginning his career at the federal environmental protection agency of Germany and holding environment ministry posts in Hesse, he served as the environmental senator of Hamburg from 1991 to 1997. In 1998 he moved into the energy industry, sitting on the board of Deutsche Shell AG, then serving as chief executive of the wind turbine manufacturer REpower Systems from 2001 to 2007 and leading the renewable energy arm of RWE, RWE Innogy, from 2008 to 2012. In 2012 he co-authored the book Die kalte Sonne with geologist Sebastian Luning, arguing that solar activity rather than greenhouse gases drives climate change, a position that drew criticism from other scientists as outdated or speculative.
