Energy mix

Systems Concept

The energy mix is the group of different primary energy sources, such as coal, oil, gas, nuclear power and renewables, from which secondary energy for direct use, such as electricity, is produced. It covers all direct uses of energy, including transportation and housing, and should not be confused with the power generation mix, which covers only electricity generation; electricity itself accounts for only about 20 percent of the world's final energy consumption, so a country's energy mix is a broader picture than its generation mix alone.
