Surface Condenser

Heating and Cooling

A surface condenser is a water-cooled shell and tube heat exchanger installed in thermal power stations to condense exhaust steam from a steam turbine, converting it from a gas back to a liquid at a pressure below atmospheric pressure. Where cooling water is scarce, an air-cooled condenser is used instead, though it is significantly more expensive and cannot achieve as low a turbine exhaust pressure as a water-cooled surface condenser.
