Mist Lift

Marine Conversion

The mist lift, also called mist flow or steam lift, is a gas-lift pumping technique used in a form of ocean thermal energy conversion, or OTEC, in which water falls to drive a hydroelectric turbine and rising steam produced by boiling warm seawater is then used to lift the water back up, eliminating the need for a conventional mechanical pump. It exploits the temperature difference between warm surface seawater and cold deep ocean water, and can function either as a standalone thermally powered pump or as part of a larger OTEC power system.
