An energy management system, or EMS, in the electrical grid context, is a system of computer-aided tools used by operators of electric utility grids to monitor, control and optimize the performance of the power generation or transmission system. The same kind of system can also be applied at a smaller scale, such as within a microgrid, to manage its own generation and load.
