An independent water and power plant (IWPP), also called an integrated water and power project, is a combined facility that operates as both a desalination plant and a power plant. IWPPs are most common in the Middle East, where demand for both electricity and desalinated water is high. An independent water and power producer negotiates a feed-in power tariff and a water tariff in the same deal with the purchasing utility, which buys both products from the plant.
