Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer

Emissions Control

A regenerative thermal oxidizer, or RTO, is an air pollution control device that uses a ceramic bed heated during a previous oxidation cycle to preheat incoming exhaust gases before they enter a combustion chamber, where an external fuel source raises them to the target oxidation temperature, typically between 760 and 820 degrees Celsius. Because the ceramic bed recovers and reuses heat from cycle to cycle, an RTO can reach thermal efficiency as high as 95 percent, and it is used across a wide range of industrial applications to destroy volatile organic compounds and hazardous air pollutants, with destruction efficiency exceeding 99.5 percent across both low and high concentrations of these pollutants.

  • Regenerative thermal oxidizer section
One of today's most widely accepted air pollution control technologies across industry is a regenerative thermal oxidizer, commonly referred to as a RTO.
  • In Group: Air Purification, Lead section
A thermal oxidizer (also known as thermal oxidiser, or thermal incinerator) is a process unit for air pollution control in many chemical plants that decomposes hazardous gases at a high temperature and releases them into the atmosphere.
