Direct borohydride fuel cells, or DBFCs, are a subcategory of alkaline fuel cells fed directly by sodium borohydride or potassium borohydride as fuel, using either air or oxygen, or alternatively hydrogen peroxide, as the oxidant. They are a relatively new fuel cell type still in development, valued for their high operating potential compared with other fuel cell types, and recent reported designs rival proton-exchange membrane fuel cells in peak power while operating at roughly double the voltage.
