Flue Gas

Emissions Control

Flue gas is the gas that exits to the atmosphere through a flue, a pipe or channel that carries exhaust gases from a fireplace, oven, furnace, boiler or steam generator, and the term often refers specifically to the exhaust gas of combustion at power plants. Combustion of fossil fuels is a common source of flue gas, which when burned with ordinary ambient air is composed largely of nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapor. Technology exists to remove pollutants from flue gas at power plants before it reaches the atmosphere.
