Power Transformer

Grid Equipment

A power transformer is a passive electrical device used to transfer energy within power transmission and distribution networks. A varying current in one coil of the transformer produces a varying magnetic flux in the transformer's core, which induces a varying electromotive force in another coil wound around the same core, so electrical energy can pass between separate circuits with no direct metallic connection between them. The induction effect that makes this possible, Faraday's law, was discovered in 1831.
