Vehicle-to-grid, or V2G, describes a system in which plug-in electric vehicles sell demand response services back to the electrical grid, either by feeding electricity back into it or by reducing how fast they draw power from it at particular times of day. These services lower demand peaks on the grid and so reduce the chance of disruption from swings in load. The related ideas vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle differ in that their alternating current output is not synchronized with the grid, so that power is only available to loads that are themselves off grid.

1. Vehicle-to-grid - Wikipedia
Lead section, paragraph 1
describes a system in which plug-in electric vehicles (PIEVs) sell demand response services to the electrical grid.
Lead section, paragraph 2
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) are related concepts, but the AC phase is not synchronised with the grid, so the power is only available to "off-grid" loads.
