Traditional Biomass

Solid biomass burned directly for heat and cooking, mainly firewood and charcoal, tracked as its own category by the International Energy Agency and the Energy Information Administration apart from modern renewables because of its low conversion efficiency and its indoor air quality and deforestation implications, especially where it remains a primary household fuel. Belongs here: unprocessed or lightly processed biomass burned directly rather than converted into a fuel or feedstock. Does not belong here: biogas, biofuels and biomass energy produced through a conversion process, grouped under Renewable.
