Sodium Borohydride

Energy Carrier

Sodium borohydride, also called sodium tetrahydridoborate, is an inorganic compound with the formula NaBH4, a white crystalline solid usually met as an aqueous basic solution. It is used as a reducing agent in papermaking and dye industries and as a reagent in organic synthesis. For energy purposes it has been considered as a way to store hydrogen for hydrogen-fueled vehicles, since it is stable in dry air and more efficient on a weight basis than most other alternatives, and it has been studied as the fuel of the direct borohydride fuel cell.
