The Benban Solar Park Project was developed in Egypt's Western Desert near Aswan under the government's feed-in tariff program for renewable energy, attracting financing from international development banks including the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Built between 2017 and 2019, the park brought together 41 separate photovoltaic plants from a mix of Egyptian and international developers onto shared grid infrastructure. It became one of the largest solar installations in Africa and a flagship project for Egypt's broader effort to diversify its electricity supply beyond natural gas.
