The Morocco Noor Solar Plan is the kingdom's national strategy for large-scale solar development, launched in 2009 alongside a broader renewable energy plan aiming to source about half of Morocco's electricity from renewables. Its centerpiece, the Noor Ouarzazate complex, combines concentrated solar power towers and parabolic trough plants with molten-salt thermal storage, allowing electricity generation to continue after sunset, and was built in phases between 2013 and 2018. The program positioned Morocco, a country with no significant domestic oil or gas reserves, as a regional leader in solar deployment and a potential future exporter of solar electricity to Europe.
