London Array Project

The London Array Project was a consortium development, first proposed in 2001 by a group including E.ON, DONG Energy and Masdar, to build a large offshore wind farm in the outer Thames Estuary. An original plan for a second, larger phase was scaled back and eventually shelved over concerns about the wind farm's effect on protected red-throated diver bird populations, leaving the completed first phase as the finished project. Commissioned in 2013, it held the title of the world's largest operating offshore wind farm for several years before larger projects such as Walney Extension and Hornsea One surpassed it.
