The Hinkley Point C Project is being built by EDF Energy, with Chinese state-owned CGN as a minority investor, on the Somerset coast beside two earlier, now-retired Hinkley Point nuclear stations. Main construction began in 2017 under a UK government contract-for-difference agreement intended to secure private investment in new nuclear capacity, the first such new-build project approved in Britain in over two decades. The project has faced repeated schedule delays and cost increases from its original estimate, and it remains the first new nuclear power station under construction in the United Kingdom in a generation.
