The Dogger Bank Wind Farm Project is a joint development by SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vargronn on the shallow North Sea sandbank of the same name, split into three consented phases, each with a capacity of around 1,200 MW. Construction of the first phase began in 2020, using very large turbines and, for the first time at this scale, high-voltage direct current transmission to bring power ashore in the north of England. On completion the project is intended to be the world's largest operating offshore wind farm, continuing a succession of UK North Sea projects that have repeatedly reset the scale of offshore wind development.
