Tengger Desert Solar Park Project

The Tengger Desert Solar Park Project was built on the edge of the Tengger Desert in China's Ningxia region as part of the country's push to expand utility-scale solar generation in its resource-rich but sparsely populated western provinces. Construction proceeded across multiple developer-built sections between 2012 and 2016, feeding a shared transmission network in an aggregation approach similar to India's later mega solar parks. On completion it was the largest photovoltaic power plant in the world by installed capacity, a title later passed to still larger Chinese and Indian projects.
