Liquid fuels and blending components made from biomass feedstocks, consumed mostly as blends with gasoline, diesel, heating oil and jet fuel. Ethanol from fermented crops is much the largest, holding 82 percent of United States biofuel production in 2022, with biodiesel and renewable diesel from fats and vegetable oils making up most of the rest.

Marks Brazil's Proalcool, launched by government decree in November 1975, the first large-scale national commercial biofuel program. Smaller, non-commercial biofuel use predates it (Rudolf Diesel demonstrated peanut-oil fuel at the 1900 Paris Exposition), but was never sold commercially.
