Taichung Power Plant is a coal and natural gas fired power station in Longjing District, Taichung, Taiwan, operated by the state owned Taiwan Power Company. Construction began in 1986, with the first of its ten 550 megawatt coal units entering service in 1991 and the last in 2006; the plant's overall nameplate capacity, including gas turbines and a small wind component, is about 5,780 megawatts. With roughly 5,500 megawatts of that capacity from coal alone, it ranks as the fourth largest coal fired power station in the world, and it has been counted among the ten most carbon polluting power plants worldwide.
