The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, founded in 1970, the independent not-for-profit operator of the power grid serving most of Texas and its Independent System Operator since 1996. It manages the flow of electricity to more than 27 million customers, about 90 percent of the Texas load, with operations headquartered in Taylor, northeast of Austin.
