The largest science and energy laboratory of the US Department of Energy, at Bethel Valley Road in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. It marked eighty years as a research institution in 2023, having begun as the Manhattan Project's Clinton Laboratories, the X-10 site, before evolving into a research laboratory; more than 7,000 scientists, engineers, technicians and support staff from more than seventy nations work there today.
