Charles Greenway, 1st Baron Greenway

Charles Greenway, 1st Baron Greenway, was a British businessman and co-founder of the company that became British Petroleum. Working alongside William Knox D'Arcy, he helped develop the Persian oil concessions that grew into the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, and he went on to serve as the company's chairman from 1914 to 1927. Under his leadership Anglo-Persian secured a controlling British government stake, which gave the state a direct interest in Persian oil production in the years around the First World War, and the company grew from an unproven concession into a major international oil producer.
