Harry Zvi Tabor was a British-born Israeli solar energy scientist, born on 7 March 1917 and died in Jerusalem on 16 December 2015 at the age of 98. He is credited with creating the solar water heater found in 95 percent of Israeli households, a simple design that works without pumps because the panel acts as a thermosiphon, and that became the standard for solar water heating worldwide. He also developed a black chrome absorbing surface for the copper water-bearing plate to raise absorptivity while limiting re-radiation, and received an honorary degree from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 1992.
