Henry Flagler was an American industrialist and a co-founder of Standard Oil, which was first based in Ohio. Beyond the oil business, he became a key figure in developing the Atlantic coast of Florida, founding the Florida East Coast Railway to extend rail service down the peninsula. Flagler is also known as a co-founder and major investor in the cities of Miami and Palm Beach, Florida, using his oil fortune to open the state's east coast to settlement and tourism.
