Ludwig Nobel

Ludwig Nobel was a Swedish-Russian engineer and industrialist, elder brother of Alfred Nobel, who built the Branobel company into the dominant oil producer in the Russian Empires Baku oil fields, then the largest oil-producing region in the world, during the 1870s and 1880s. Nobel modernized nearly every stage of the oil business, introducing the first oil tanker ships on the Caspian Sea, building pipelines to move crude oil away from the wells rather than hauling it by cart, and developing large-scale refining operations that turned Baku crude into kerosene and other products for export across the Russian Empire and Europe. His innovations in tanker transport and pipeline logistics were adopted internationally and became standard practice throughout the oil industry as it expanded elsewhere in the world. Ludwig Nobel is credited with industrializing the Russian oil business and demonstrating the bulk transport methods that made large-scale petroleum production commercially viable.
