The concrete gravity dam on the Columbia River in Washington State, built from 1933 to 1941 with a third powerplant added between 1967 and 1974, operated by the Bureau of Reclamation. Its 6,809 megawatts of generating capacity make it the largest hydropower producer in the United States, well ahead of Hoover Dam at 2,080, and its more than 21 billion kilowatt-hours a year is a production figure, not a capacity one; the dam also serves flood control, irrigation and storage.
