Tucurui Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Tocantins River in Para State, Brazil, and was the first large hydroelectric project built in the Brazilian Amazon. Its first phase was completed in 1984 and a second phase in 2010, giving the plant 25 turbines and an installed capacity of about 8,370 megawatts. Its Creager type spillway, with a maximum discharge capacity of 110,000 cubic meters per second, is the second largest of its kind in the world. The dam's reservoir, Lago Tucurui, covers about 2,850 square kilometers.
