A concrete arch-gravity dam on the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona, completed in 1936 during the Great Depression. It was the largest dam and hydroelectric station in the world at completion, with about 2,080 megawatts of capacity today, and became the emblem of the era of great public power works.
