Leonardo Maugeri, April 10, 1964 to July 10, 2017, was an Italian oil and gas expert who spent from 1994 to 2011 at the energy company Eni, becoming its youngest director in 2000 as head of strategy and development. During his time directing strategy, from 2000 to 2005, Eni's hydrocarbon production grew by half while corporate profits reached record levels. He later chaired Eni's petrochemical division Polimeri Europa before becoming a senior fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center, where he wrote influential studies on oil markets and shale development.
